Student support specialist welcoming students to campus

About This Tool

Hammer and wrench icon

This tool was developed to support college leaders who are redesigning student supports as part of their Guided Pathways redesign.* All of the college examples are of innovative redesign occurring in the California Community College system. Each topical unit of the Design Guide can be used by college teams leading the redesign efforts to build knowledge, assess efficacy of existing practices, and to begin discussion of redesign.

Each topic includes:

  • An informational section with a description, guiding principles, and key components

  • An example section with college profiles of redesign efforts at a California community college

  • A Guide to Getting Started with a self-assessment tool, recommendations for data to use to guide the redesign, questions to explore with your team, and sample activities to complete to get your team thinking creatively

  • A Resource list for further study and inquiry
